Adult Education & Spiritual Formation:
Of the many different kinds of ministries here at Second Presbyterian, we consider the Adult Education ministries to be one of the "nurturing ministries," alongside youth and children's ministries.
As a part of our mission in Adult Education we affirm that discipleship is not purely a matter of knowledge, but also a breadth of experiences of Christian devotion, practice, and discipline.
As we wonder at the life and history of the Church, we seek to appreciate the Reformed tradition as well as the beauty and witness of other traditions, with the hope of sharing in the expanded fellowship of the Church throughout the world.
In this spirit we offer classes that both connect us to the great cloud of witnesses throughout our Judeo-Christian History and urge us to engage our community and world.
Spring 2012 Adult Sunday School Classes Started February 5th:
A Pilgrimage to Other Faiths - led by Sally and Bob Goodrich
This class will study Huston Smith's book, The World's Religions. Various guest speakers will visit the class as these questions are explored. Are we called upon to examine other faiths? Can examining other faiths make us better Christians? Can we embrace more than one faith? Meets in the Session Room.
Discovery Bible Study - led by Joan Dayton, Martha Schull Gilliss, and Joe Wolfe-Mazeres
This class will be studying the Gospel of Luke. Come and see for yourself who Jesus is in this account of his life. Meets in Room 302.
Just Eating: Practicing Our Faith at the Table - led by Samantha Williams
This seven week class, using curriculum from the Presbyterian Hunger Program, will explore the relationship between what we eat and the way we live. The study uses scripture, prayer, and stories from the local and global community to explore five key aspects of our relationship with food. Meets February 5 – March 18 in the Activity Center.
