music ministry vision:
Throughout Christian history, music has been an integral part of the church and its mission. As a church family that gathers in the 21st century we believe music can engage the whole person in our worship of God. Acknowledging this unique and powerful gift, Second Presbyterian Church sees music as central to our church and its mission. Our vision for music ministry is one that:

  • Engages the whole person -- mind, body, and spirit – in the glorification of Go.
  • Educates us in matters of Christian faith and service
  • Enhances our communal life together
  • Embraces the diverse range of ages and interests in our community of faith

Engages the whole person -- mind, body, and spirit – in the glorification of God and our worship as we seek to be:

  • "classically Reformed" in our structure
  • focused upon the praise of God through music
  • focused upon making worship more of an experience of being in God's presence

Engages us in matters of Christian faith and service as:

  • we teach the congregation about the biblical and theological roots of our liturgy
  • we are intentional in providing opportunities for music participants to demonstrate their faith
  • our music connects us to the global church and to service in the world.

Engages our communal life together as we seek to:

  • by encouraging a wide variety of religious music styles and complexities
  • by encouraging different approaches to hearing the word of God through various forms of instrumental and vocal music. This includes new and old hymns and international, classical, folk, and contemporary music, etc.
  • by providing opportunities for people of all ages and musical abilities to share their gifts and talents for the glory of God
  • through intergenerational and age specific music groups
  • by encouraging creativity and variety in worship styles
  • by supporting families who seek to worship together
  • Outreach to members of the broader community through participation and listening
  • Opportunities for music participants to demonstrate their faith
