AGENCIES AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Better Decisions - Better Decisions trains volunteers and pairs them with an inmate at the Tennessee Prison for Women. Volunteers mentor their inmate partner through an 8-week curriculum in decision making and life skills. Better Decisions volunteers also lead the TPW book club.

Volunteer Opportunities: Mentor an inmate partner in the Better Decisions curriculum.

Martha O'Bryan Center - A Presbyterian outreach ministry whose mission is to help disadvantage families become self-sufficient and free from poverty, under-education and reliance upon government assistance. Programs include: Meals on Wheels, adult literacy, day-care center, and youth and senior citizen programs.

Volunteer Opportunities: Tutor, help children in the READ program, work in Kids Cafe, visit seniors, be a greeter, help in youth programs, deliver meals, crank ice cream for the summer fund-raiser.

Monroe Harding - A Presbyterian-founded home whose mission is to help children and youth in need realize their full potential by providing education, counseling, and residential care that nurtures the mind, body and spirit.

Volunteer Opportunities: Mentor a youth who lives at Monroe Harding or an elementary-age child in their school; GED tutoring; administrative assistance; help with art enrichment; provide transportation for youth who wish to attend Sunday services at Second; organize a group to adopt a cottage that houses 6 to 10 youth.

Nashville CARES - To help an individual living with HIV or AIDs to manage the activities of daily living. Nashville CARES offers CARE Team support. Second Presbyterian Church has two CARE Teams, and each team is a cooperative effort to provide assistance with practical tasks as well as emotional support and respite care for the client and family members

Volunteer Opportunities: Assist with tasks related to medical, household, nutritional, personal, and/or emotional support.

Preston Taylor Ministries - PTM provides after school programs, mentoring, tutoring, and spring break and summer programs to children in the Preston Taylor public housing area.

Volunteer Opportunities:Volunteers are needed to mentor and tutor a PTM youth, ages pre-K to 8th grade. Lunchmate volunteers join their child once a week for lunch in the school cafeteria.

Safe Haven Family Shelter - The only 24-hour shelter in Nashville where homeless families can stay together as a whole unit. The shelter also offers families a variety of training and counseling programs.

Volunteer Opportunities: Stay overnight at Safe Haven, provide an evening meal for guests.

Room in the Inn - Room in the Inn provides shelter and meals for Nashville's homeless from November through March. Second hosts up to 18 guests one night a week. In addition to a warm place to sleep, showers and laundry, they receive a hot meal and sack lunch.

Volunteer Opportunities: Transport guests to and from Room in the Inn to Second in the church van; serve as an overnight host at Second; provide dinner; shop for groceries; wash sheets and towels; provide an evening program for guests.

FiftyForward - Senior Citizens Inc. provides a variety of services to Nashvillians age 55 and up. SCI operates Meals on Wheels and Adult Day Program services out of Second.

Volunteer Opportunities: Meals on Wheels delivery, socialization with Adult Day Program participants.

Siloam Family Health Center - Siloam is a Christ-centered, volunteer-supported clinic that provides affordable, high-quality health care to the uninsured and underserved.

Volunteer Opportunities: Spanish and Arabic interpreters, Breast Health Educators, Patient Hospitality Volunteers, Nurses, X-ray techs, Prayer Intercessors, and Nutrition Educators.
