Room in the Inn Volunteer Opportunities:

SET-UP - Second's youth have traditionally handled set-up. This includes:
• arranging mattresses on floor, making beds with sheets and pillows.
• assemble sack lunches for guests.

DRIVER - Van drivers use the church van to pick up guests at the Campus For Human Development around 5:30 Wednesday evening, then return them to the Campus around 5:45 a.m. Thursday. If you can only do one shift, that's OK.

SHOPPER - Shoppers are provided a list of needed supplies. They might include:
• sack lunch supplies
• laundry supplies
• breakfast cereal, orange juice, etc.

DINNER - Provide a hot dinner for our guests and hosts. This is a great family activity! Bring a home-cooked meal, cook something in Second's kitchen, or get creative: our guests love pizza and barbecue, too.

HOST - Two hosts are needed to spend the night with the guests, handle any issues that come up, and take care of clean up Thursday morning. Hosts usually arrive around 6 pm Wednesday night and are finished around 7 am Thursday morning. The task includes:
• Help with set up & meal clean-up, as needed;
• Welcome and orient guests;
• Answer questions, help guests settle in;
• Prepare morning meal;
• Put RITI supplies away & meal clean-up

LAUNDRY - Bed linens and towels used by our guests must be washed each week. Volunteers can use Second's laundry facilities, or you can use your home laundry.

OTHER - If you are interested in helping to entertain our guests by playing music or games, let us know!

Second Presbyterian is also discussing the possibility of becoming an emergency shelter. Often in icy or snowy weather, churches from the farther reaches of the Metro area can't drive to pick up guests. If you're interested on being on the emergency call list, please get in touch with us.
