2011-2012 session
Moderator: Rev. Jeannie Hunter Dunbar, Associate Pastor
Clerk of Session: Andy Finch
Youth Elders: Catherine Gore, Emily Kleinfelter
Kate Adcock is a near-lifetime member of Second Presbyterian. She graduated from Rhodes College in 2007 with a degree in Religious Studies, and then served as a Young Adult Volunteer in San Antonio, TX. After serving as a YAV, she was a youth minister through the Center for Youth Ministry Training. She is currently working as a teacher at Westminster School for Young Children, and serving as a youth advisor for Sunday night Youth Fellowship.
Roger Conner is married to Margaret Blair, has two children (Josh and Lizzie) and two foster grandchildren (Abbey and Chloe). At Second he is a Sunday School Shepherd and a member of the Dream Group and the Congregational Care Committee. In his professional life he teaches policy advocacy at Vanderbilt Law School and group conflict resolution at the Institute for Conflict Management at Lipscomb; as a private consultant he designs and implements processes to generate reconciliation and cooperation in public policy disputes.
Jeff Crossan grew up in Wilmington, Delaware and joined Second 27 years ago. He is an elder and has served on the Fellowship, Worship and Outreach committees. He was also a member of the Worship and Music Task Force, the Sesquicentennial Committee and Pastor Nominating Committee. Jeff is a songwriter and lives in Franklin with his wife Linda, an artist. They are parents of Sara and Jon.
Kathy Ianni has been a member of Second for 5 years, since she and her husband, Juan, an international postal consultant, moved to Nashville from the Washington, D.C. area. For the past three years, she has been a member of the Outreach Committee and active in the Room in the Inn program. Kathy was an ESL teacher for many years and currently volunteers with refugees in our community. She is on the board of Better Decisions, a mentoring program at the Tennessee Prison for Women, where she also coordinates a book club.
Debby Pollard, a native Nashvillian, lives in Nashville with her husband, Don. They have 4 grandchildren close by, with whom they are actively involved. They joined Second a few years ago after Debby became involved with the Arts in Liturgy class, where she has enjoyed the new friendships and projects. Second's philosophy and members exemplify to her the meaning of practicing Christianity: a welcoming, inclusive spirit; nonjudgmental attitude; diversity; and involvement in the world community. Debby is a teacher, working for the past 5 years at Currey Ingram Academy.
Marietta Shipley, the daughter of a Lutheran minister, has lived in Nashville since 1971. She is the President of The Mediation Group of Tennessee, where she practices mediation and collaborative law. She along with her husband, David McMillan have been members of Second since 1998. She enjoys the open atmosphere of Second and looks forward to deepening her relationship with members of Second and contributing to the Session.
Jeff Skillen grew up in Kingsport, TN and is the principal in SkillSet Enterprises. A lifelong Presbyterian, He and Sara were married at Second and joined the church in 1995. Several career opportunities have taken them through Santa Fe NM, Thousand Oaks, CA and back to Nashville where they re-joined Second in 2005 along with their children Cameron and Wyatt. Jeff is looking forward to serving on session where he hopes to play a meaningful role in fulfilling God's plan for our church. Jeff enjoys endurance running, cooking, checking out the latest in technology, and politics.
Brian F. Williams is a native of Middle Tennessee, but has lived all over including in Los Angeles, Chicago and London. He grew up at First Presbyterian Church in Franklin, where Robert Early was the interim pastor during his high school years. Brian began attending Second in the fall of 2006. Brian met his wife, Samantha at the East Nashville YMCA, but they soon began dating after he learned that they were both attending Second, Brian at the early service and Sam at the late service. They now both attend the late service. They have two sons, Desmond and Oscar. Brian appreciates the tight-knit community at Second Presbyterian and its mission of love and service. He feels honored to be asked to join the session.
Catherine Gore is from Atlanta, Georgia, and moved here four years ago. Even though she just started coming to second on a regular basis, she came here when she visited her grandparents, Mildred and Wayne Whitt. She is about to start her junior year at Franklin High School. She is very excited to serve on the session at second, and she loves the community that is present in the church.
Emily Kleinfelter was born here in Nashville, TN, and has been a member of Second since before she was even born. She attends with her parents, David and Janet, and her brother, Ben. Emily is a rising senior at Hume-Fogg Academic and is a very involved student, involving herself in varsity soccer, as well as being stage manager for the theater productions, the National Honor Society Parliamentarian, and the (hopeful) future president of the school's Gay-Straight Alliance. This is her second year as a youth elder and a session member, and has greatly enjoyed being involved with the process of helping to better the youth group. She looks forward to giving new and inventive insight on ways to help create positive change amongst the youth and its leaders
